Cahokia High School offers a variety of courses for math to challenge scholars within their abilities. The courses follow a Traditional Math Pathway. Traditional Math is set up in a 4-year series of Mathematics courses incorporating the New Illinois Learning Standards, preparing students for college and career. This 4-year series includes; Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, and Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus.  An honors pathway provides Honors Algebra 1, Honors Geometry, Honors Algebra 2, Honors Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus , AP Calculus and AP Stats .  Test Prep courses for scholars wanting additional support and math elective credit are offered as well. The courses offered all incorporate the New Illinois Learning Standards.

New Illinois LEARNING STANDARDS

The New Illinois Learning Standards provide a consistent and clear understanding of what students are expected to learn. The standards are robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills needed for success in college and careers.

Course Offerings and GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS IN MATH

Illinois requirements for graduation include 3 years of mathematics, including both algebra and geometry content.

The Traditional Pathway will have Algebra 1 the first year, geometry the second year, and an option will be given for the scholar's third year which is based on their ability and college/career plans. The options for the third year of math are Business Math with Algebra or Algebra 2.

To graduate, a student will need 3 credits from these math classes. Any student planning on attending career or college training should take 4 years of mathematics. An * represents recommended classes if students plan on attending a 4-year university.

 Textbooks

Each teacher provides a syllabus to students detailing the textbooks used, along with grading and procedures used in the classroom. Please check your teacher’s webpage for additional information on the specific class.

CALCULATORS and technology

One of the main calculators that is used by the Math Department is the TI-84+C.  Calculators will also be used in daily lessons, assignments, and assessments throughout the year to develop students’ mathematical reasoning and skills to appropriately use technology to aid in problem-solving. The graphing calculators are acceptable to use on other standardized tests (ACT, SAT, AP) as well. 

The math classrooms will utilize the Windows Surface Pro 3 and I-PADS when appropriate for math instruction to better prepare students for college and careers.
